“Come with me,” said the dunderhead. “I can help you.”

He led him into the King’s cellar.

“Here you are,” said the dunderhead. “Drink and empty all the casks in this cellar. But remember, all this must be done before the sun sets.”

The little man began to drink and drink and by the end of the day he had emptied the cellar.

Again the dunderhead demanded the hand of the Princess, but the King imposed new and harder conditions. The King commanded the boy to bring a man to the court who could eat up a mountain of bread before the sun set.

The dunderhead again went to the place in the forest where he had cut down the tree.
